Have you ever noticed that there is one thing that your mind is constantly doing? No no, it is not over thinking! It is playing music. You might have seen this famous meme and would have related to it completely.

Hasn’t music become an inseparable part of our lives? We constantly hum, listen or sing music while accomplishing our regular tasks. Let’s admit, haven’t we all hummed music while writing an exam or giving an interview or while someone was talking to us? We even listen to sad songs purposefully when we sad or hyper songs when jovial. It is as if humming music has become an unconscious activity. As the saying goes ‘Music is the language of the soul’, it truly resonates and helps exhilarate your mind. Be it a happy, sad, stressful or a normal day, music is constantly there.
Researchers say that listening to music is a kind of total brain workout since it helps reduce anxiety, stress, blood pressure and even pain. It helps you have a sound sleep and works as an unpaid therapist! Studies reveal that music helps link memory. Music helps us teleport to some other dimension or even make us time travel. Do you not relive your college days when you hear a particular song?

You might have even come across videos where the doctors are performing brain surgery while the patient is playing a violin. That’s how much influence music has in our lives. Our brain works like a stereo 24×7. At times we might not even remember the lyrics but still buzz the music round the clock.

1900s was the era of Indi Pop. I am sure a lot of us have actually saved our pocket money to buy just that one cassette of Suneeta Rao’s ‘Paree hoon main’. From listening to the evergreen ‘Disco Deewane’ by Nazia Hassan to Falguni Pathak’s ‘Maine Payal hai chankayi’ to Bombay Vikings ‘Kya soorat hai’ to our all time favourite Lucky Ali we all grew up. Over the years music has advanced almost every day, but Indi Pop has always been a constant. Infact, even today bollywood is bringing back our favourite oldies by re-mixing them. From ‘Tu Cheez badi’ to ‘Yaad Piya ki’ bollywood took us on a little trip down the memory lane.

No matter how much we hate these remixes, but one good thing that happened was that we started appreciating and loving the Indi Pop even more. In all likelihood, the lyrics and music of popular Govinda and Salman Khan Songs are still imprinted on our minds. ‘Bolo Tara ra ra’, ‘Gud naalo ishq mittha’, ‘chudi jo khanki’ and ‘Ishq tera tadpave’ are still the number one song choices for weddings. This list would never end though.
Adnan Sani’s ‘Kabhi to Nazar Milao’, ‘Tera Chehera’ and Pankaj Udhas’s ‘Aur Ahista’ still sooths our mind and liberates us to the world of galaxies. Euphoria’s ‘Maeri and ‘Kabhi Aana tu meri gali’ that introduced us to the versatile Vidya Balan, ugghhhh!

It is amazing how one can talk on music for hours or write pages about it but never get tired of the same. We have vibed and connected to absolute strangers at music concerts and have even had random friends online and offline just because our music tastes resonated. With the world wide lockdown, we got a chance to explore and re-explore music. Given this opportunity, we even appreciated and supported raw and under rated talents within and outside the country. With our high social media addiction we even re-discovered songs. Instagram Reels, Tik Toks, people sharing unplugged version of songs either by singing or playing or even mixing songs from different genre/ artists/ languages, helped us re discover our love for music.
With Yashraj Mukhate, Anshuman Sharma raiding the markets with their creativity or Dhinchak Pooja with her ‘why, did she do that?’ songs, or Baadshah and Tony Kakkar getting million views on YouTube Indi pop music evolved, therefore enlarging our tastes. These days BTS and K- Pop has taken the music market with a storm.
Though years will change, people will change and progression will happen but one thing that will remain will be the common and shared love for music. Music has helped us forget enmity and make new friends. From sharing common love to common hatred towards songs, we all became friends.
